What we assess
From a burst geyser to a multi-site catastrophe event, each claim gets the same thorough site inspection, clear quantification and a report the insurer can act on.
Buildings combined, fire damage to buildings, property loss of any nature, and structural or civil engineering claims of any size.
Household contents, homeowners' buildings and specified all-risks items such as jewellery, cameras and portable electronics.
Accidental damage, business all risks, electronic equipment, goods in transit, money, theft and office contents.
Non-motor catastrophe events: hail, flood, earthquake, storm and spreading fires. We scale up quickly when an event affects many policyholders at once.
Contractors all risks, machinery breakdown, plant all risks and electronic equipment, assessed with a focus on cause of failure.
Assessment of damage caused by riots, strikes, civil commotion and public disorder, across all categories of property.
Before a loss happens
Most claim disputes start with under-insurance or poor records. We help insurers, brokers and policyholders get the sums insured right and have the proof on file before anything goes wrong.
Replacement-value valuations for homes and commercial properties, so the building sum insured reflects what it would actually cost to rebuild.
On-site risk surveys for underwriting: construction, occupancy, security, fire protection and exposures, reported clearly with practical recommendations.
Detailed, photographed inventories of household contents and business or office contents, giving you accurate sums insured and proof of ownership.
How we work
Every claim follows the same disciplined path, and every step is logged in our claims management system so insurers and brokers always know where a file stands.
The insurer or broker sends the claim. We log it and allocate the right assessor straight away.
We call the insured promptly, explain the process and book a site visit at a time that suits them.
An assessor inspects the damage in person: cause, extent, photographs, measurements and statements.
Quotes and invoices are checked against market rates and policy cover, and the loss is properly validated.
A clear, evidence-based report with a settlement recommendation goes to the insurer, ready for a decision.
Why Sterling
Most of our work happens on site, not behind a desk. We see the damage ourselves and talk to the people involved. That is the only way to get a loss right the first time.
Back at the office, our own claims management system tracks every open file hour by hour. Nothing stalls and nothing gets lost.

FAQ
A loss adjuster (also called a claims assessor) is appointed to investigate an insurance claim independently: they inspect the damage, establish the cause, check it against the policy, quantify the loss and recommend a fair settlement to the insurer.
Our head office is in Pretoria, Gauteng, and our assessors travel to sites in all nine provinces of South Africa.
Most of our claims instructions come from short-term insurers, brokers and underwriting managers. Homeowners and businesses can contact us directly for building valuations, insurance surveys and contents inventories.
Email the instruction to [email protected], call our office on 012 880 4733, send a WhatsApp to 064 005 2551, or use the contact form on this page.
We contact the insured promptly, inspect on site and track every file hourly in our own in-house claims management system, so nothing stalls between instruction and settlement.
Photographs of the damage, proof of ownership for damaged or stolen items, repair quotes or invoices, receipts for emergency repairs, and a police case number for theft or malicious damage.
